Adventures In Learning at Lincoln School, Rutherford

All programs run on Saturdays, beginning October 3, 2009.

Give your child a fun Saturday morning while you’re running your errands – sign up for 1 or 2 classes!  All classes are held at Franklin School in Lyndhurst, and are 50 minutes long.  Children will switch classes under the YMCA’s supervision.  Supplies and equipment are included, except where noted.

8-week Fall Session:  Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, Nov. 14, 21, Dec. 5, 12

CREATIVE COOKS

10:30am - 11:20am          Grades K-8            

We’ll make all kinds of fun and tasty things in this beginner cooking class.  We’ll start with some basics like pigs-in-blankets and chocolate-covered strawberries, then try out some specialty appliances as we make quesadillas, smoothies and lots more.  We’ll eat what we make, but you’ll bring home the recipes so you can show your family what you learned! 

KRAFTY KIDS

9:30am -10:20am          Grades K-8            

If arts and crafts are your “thing,” this class is for you.  We make and/or decorate projects with many different materials – paper, wood, clay, wax, and lots more.  Explore your creative side as you figure out how to express yourself artistically each week! 

INDOOR SPORTS

10:30-11:20am              GRADES K-8

Learn the basics or improve your skills with this class that keeps you moving!  Games and fun drills will help you get ready to play basketball, soccer and baseball.  Bring shin guards, baseball mitts and a water bottle.

GUITAR

9:30am-10:20am                 Grades 3-8

Learn to play guitar! We will cover the basics of both strumming chords and picking out melodies, while we begin to learn to read music. You will get the most out of this class by practicing at home what you learn each week. Students must bring a guitar to class, along with the Mel-Bay Book 1 for Guitar. 

GOLF

9:30am-10:20am               Grades K-8

Learn how to golf the right way!  Total Golf Adventures provides all equipment, certified instructors, and a great experience for our students.  You will have tons of fun learning the correct way to golf with lots of indoor drills and hands-on experience.  If you already took this class and loved it, sign up again – classes are designed to be multi-level, so the instructor will help you progress!

CHEMICAL CONCOCTIONS

11:30am-12:20pm             Grades 3-8

Check out all the crazy concoctions we can make through the chemistry!  We’ll follow formulas that make things fizz and foam.  We’ll bend bones and bounce eggs.  We’ll discover how lava lamps work and much more.  This is your chance to do all the things that mom won’t let you mess up her kitchen with!
