Swim Lessons
Ages 6 years
and older
Polliwog 1:
Introduction to water skills: helps
students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely, learn to
float, and learn to exhale under water. These 30 minute classes are taught
by a caring instructor. The ratio of instructor to student is 1:6
Polliwog 2:
This is the beginning level for the school
age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, the use of
flotation devices, and front and back floating. By the end of this level,
they should know the front paddle stroke, side and back paddle, synchronized
swimming, and wet ball. The ratio of instructor to student is 1:6
Guppy:
The children continue to practice and build
upon basic skills, now performing more skills without the aid of flotation
deices. They are introduced to lead-up strokes to9 front and back crawl,
sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. More synchronized
swimming skills are taught. The ratio of instructor to student is
1:8
Minnow:
This is the initial intermediate level.
The children further refine the lead-up strokes as their skills become more like
those normally used in swimming. More diving skills like those normally
used in swimming. More diving skills are also learned. The
ratio of instructor to student is 1:10
Fish:
At this intermediate level, students work to
perform the crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, back crawl stroke, and side
stroke, with turns. They are still learning more diving skills and are
introduced to the use of mask and fins. The ratio of instructor
to student is 1:10
Flying
Fish:
At this advanced level, students work on
refining their strokes and increasing their endurance. They develop the
ability to perform more complex combinations of synchronized swimming movements.
They are also introduced to the use of a snorkel. The ratio of
instructor to student is 1:10
Sharks:
The students at this level continue to
improve their strokes, implementing starts and turns and are introduced to
inverted breast stroke, the crawl and the arm-over-side stroke. They are
also exposed to snorkeling skills. The ratio of instructor to student is 1:12
